On the south-western part of Luzon in the Philippines lies a province named Batangas. During the reign of the Spaniards, it was called “batangan” because logs which are called “batang” by the locals are bountiful in the place. Batangas City is its capital. You can get there after two to three hours of travelling from Manila which is the capital of the Philippines. It is a popular tourist destination that everyone loves. This is the place to visit when you love to observe marine life because this city has the most exquisite beaches that offer great diving sites which you can really enjoy. Batangas City is the abode of the two man-made parks in the province. Plaza Mabini Park is the name of the first one where the statue of Apolinario Mabini stands. The other is the Laurel Park. These include Basilica of Immaculada Conception, Taal Volcano and Taal Lake, Calumpang River and lastly, two waterfalls that flows all year round, Tingga and Ilijan Falls. The most famous “Balisong” is from Batangas too. These “balisong” is also called butterfly knife or fan knife and most of the times it is called Batangas knife. It can be folded and it can easily fit your pocket because of its small size. It is used as a self defence. It is most convenient to use because you can open it using just one hand but be careful when handling the knife because it is really sharp. Aside from balisongs, the province is also popular for Barong Tagalog which is the Filipino equivalent of tuxedo. It is a formal wear chosen by many for special and formal events.

Livestock is also a main business in the province, with one of its municipality hailed as the livestock capital of the country.

Throughout the history of the Philippines, lots of Batanggenyo made it on the list. That includes personalities like Apolinario Mabini, Miguel Malvar, Claro Recto, Jose Laurel and even the current Vice President Jejomar Binay also hails from Batangas.

Batangas is also rich in culture, having been an early settlement of old civilization. Several artifacts are found in Nasugbu Batangas to prove existence of such ancient people. These includes early utensils and tools they use for a living.

The province is known to produce several best quality products such as barong tagalong, coffee, tapa and other local delicacies that can only be found on the province. Municipality of Taal boasts its tapa and barong tagalong dress, while the city of Lipa once known for its famous kapeng barako.

Most of all, batanggenyo people are known for being barako or stud. Whether male or female, this trademark is already with them wherever they are. This is also how other Filipino people distinguish them from the rest.

And lastly, Batangas is known of having one of the best beach resorts in the country. Along its coastal lines lies a long stretch of sands ideal for relaxing and enjoying the serenity of the ocean. As of now, there are lots of resorts operating in various places in Batangas mostly along the coastal road.
